Let the Son Shine

“The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day.” Proverbs 4:18

Are you letting God's light shine in this dark world?

One particularly dark and stormy morning, I was backing out of the driveway to head to work when something caught my eye.  It was the tiniest of butterflies with pale butter-yellow wings that were so bright and translucent.  This small butterfly lit up the dark sky with just the soft light of its wings.

How much more can we, having the light of Jesus, light up this dark world?

God's Word tells us in Isaiah 58:10, “Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon” (NLT).

It is for these good works, demonstrating our faith, that we are here.  It is not out of our surplus that God teaches us to give to others.  It is in response to the needs of others that we give, share, love, and do.  Oh, that our love for others and our faith in Jesus would be proven in this way.

In Matthew 5:16 Jesus tells us, “In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your Heavenly Father” (NLT).

And further in Luke 8:16 He reminds us, “No one lights a lamp and then covers it with a bowl or hides it under a bed. A lamp is placed on a stand, where its light can be seen by all who enter the house” (NLT).

It is a glorious thing to see His light in one another!

Psalm 97:11 reminds us, “Light shines on the godly, and joy on those whose hearts are right” (NLT).

May we never try to hide this, His light.

Goodnight, Runners.
