Remember Where You're Going
“Soon I will die, going the way of everything on earth. Deep in your hearts you know that every promise of the Lord your God has come true. Not a single one has failed!" Joshua 23:14
Jesus tells us that we are to seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33), and that our purpose is to please Him and not people (1 Thessalonians 2:4).
We often hear told that we should never forget where we came from. Yet, the Holy Bible tells us something different. It tells us to remember where we're going.
Consider Ecclesiastes 7:1-2 which says, "A good reputation is more valuable than costly perfume. And the day you die is better than the day you are born. Better to spend your time at funerals than at parties. After all, everyone dies—so the living should take this to heart."
Scripture has a great deal to say about eternity and how we spend our brief time living on this earth. It tells us to search for Him with all our heart and soul, and that if we do this, we will find Him (Deuteronomy 4:29).
And Acts 17:27 says, “His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us" (NLT).
Jesus stresses this in each one of the gospels, stating, "If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it" (Mark 8:35, NLT).
Romans 8:18 tells us, "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us" (NLT).
If we consider these things, any difficulty or heartache experienced in this life, any courage needed will be gleaned from an entirely different perspective and heart. But, if you don't believe in the person of Jesus Christ, well that is where it all begins.
And believer, consider Jude 1:24, "Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault" (NLT).
Goodnight, Runners.
