Bug on the Windshield
"Don’t be misled; remember that you can’t ignore God and get away with it: a man will always reap just the kind of crop he sows!" Galatians 6:7
Do you ever ignore God?
When we ignore Him, it is unspeakably irreverent.
While driving home from work this week, a large bug hit my windshield. It was directly in my line of sight, and try as I might, the wipers just wouldn't remove what remained of the poor rascal. It was an especially busy afternoon, so as I arrived home, the bug on the windshield was quickly forgotten for the more pressing tasks at hand, and the many household chores to be done.
The next morning as I left early, while still dark out, it didn't take more than a moment for the frustration to set in. I hadn't addressed the poor beast who sacrificed himself on my windshield. He demanded my attention, yet I just had no time for him.
Leaving work again that day, the sun's angle made it almost impossible to drive safely unless I did something about the bug. But, I couldn't just get out of my car on the freeway and remove it! I had to continue on, and upon arriving home again, the bug was all but forgotten.
The next day a strong rainstorm came and washed the bug away.
I wonder.
Could it be that we treat God in this manner? He has sacrificed Himself for us, giving His all for us—even now. Yet, when He comes gently before us to speak, could it be that we scarcely have time to listen?
I have found that God always comes with a blessing. Even if it is to address my sin, it is a blessing, for there could not be anything more loving.
Psalms 85:8 tells us, "I listen carefully to what God the Lord is saying, for he speaks peace to his faithful people. But let them not return to their foolish ways" (NLT).
Oh, that you and I might listen and receive our blessing from Him today.
Goodnight, Runners.
