It’s Not Okay To Doubt God
"Then give him this message, ‘Blessed are those who don’t doubt me.’” Matthew 11:6
I heard it in church just this morning.
"It's okay to doubt." And then, a list of well-known Christians who apparently doubted God. Another case of Cultural Christianity at its finest. My friend, it's not okay to doubt God. Doubt is an indication that we do not know who Jesus is at all.
Truly, this is a grave problem.
There are many wonderful passages in Scripture that speak to this topic. When Peter stepped out of the boat to walk on water—and he did walk on water—it is only when he took his eyes off of Jesus and doubted that he began to sink. Matthew 14:31 tells us, "Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. 'You have so little faith,' Jesus said. 'Why did you doubt me'" (NLT)?
Jesus spoke to Thomas about the matter after the resurrection in John 20:27, "Then he said to Thomas, 'Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe'" (NIV).
Abraham was counted as righteous and became the father of many nations because he believed God. Romans 4:20 says it this way, "But Abraham never doubted. He believed God, for his faith and trust grew ever stronger, and he praised God for this blessing even before it happened" (TLB).
Dear Christians, we have a crisis of faith in the culture. If we doubt God, we need to call it what it is—sin. Then we need to confess it and repent of it. God is not only good, He is merciful and forgives us. But He has also proven Himself faithful to us—ALWAYS faithful.
Hebrews 10:23 tells us, "Now we can look forward to the salvation God has promised us. There is no longer any room for doubt, and we can tell others that salvation is ours, for there is no question that he will do what he says" (TLB).
Just imagine the possibilities.
"And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him." Hebrews 11:6
Goodnight, Runners.
