Waiting Well—With or Without Lightning

“For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation.” Psalm‬ ‭62‬:‭1‬

Do you find yourself waiting for something today?

Perhaps it is a job, a change, an answer.

I have been challenged in my own season of waiting to resist the temptation to act at the behest of others, sometimes with different motives than my own.  And I have been encouraged by the waiting of Hannah, Daniel, Joseph, Jacob, Moses, Noah, Abraham, and others in Scripture.  Like me and like you, not all of them waited perfectly.  But when they waited in active obedience, listening for the whisper of God as did Elijah, God answered and He rewarded them.  He speaks and rewards us, too.

Listen to Scripture from 1 Kings 19:11-12:

“And he said, ‘Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord.’ And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper” (ESV).

Whatever you are waiting for today, remember that waiting is an active rather than a passive process.  And, remember that the time spent in waiting well is never wasted.

Scripture tells us in Isaiah 64:4, “From of old no one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for those who wait for him”‭ (ESV‬).

And Isaiah 40:31 breathes this life into us, “but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint” (ESV‬‬).

May we wait and listen well for the whisper of God.

Goodnight, Runners.
