How the West Was Won

"For I, the Lord, love justice; I hate robbery and wrong. I will faithfully reward my people for their suffering and make an everlasting covenant with them. Their descendants shall be known and honored among the nations; all shall realize that they are a people God has blessed. Let me tell you how happy God has made me! For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and draped about me the robe of righteousness. I am like a bridegroom in his wedding suit or a bride with her jewels." Isaiah 61:8-10

In travelling recently in Switzerland, Belgium, and Amsterdam, I was struck by a couple of things.

First, we have so very much in common with other people around the globe.  There is much we can learn from one another about what we do best and what practices are worst, about what we do right and what we do wrong.

Most importantly, there is such a hole in each and every human soul that only Jesus can fill.  We try to fill this hole with so many other things.  And none is adequate.

Each and every person I spoke with had a deep love and respect for their brothers and sisters in the West, in America, and a few asked what makes America different and special.

It is God.

God is the one who has blessed the West.  If we turn our backs on Him, well, listen to what Psalm 33:8-15 tells us.  I cannot state it any better:

"Let everyone in all the world—men, women, and children—fear the Lord and stand in awe of him. For when he but spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command! And with a breath he can scatter the plans of all the nations who oppose him, but his own plan stands forever. His intentions are the same for every generation. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, whose people he has chosen as his own. The Lord gazes down upon mankind from heaven where he lives. He has made their hearts and closely watches everything they do."

May those in the North, South, East, and West praise the Lord!  And, I pray for Leisel, Emmanuel, Anna, Julie and Dave.  May God bless you all.

Goodnight, Runners.
