Looking Like Jesus

"But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord." 2 Corinthians 3:18

God's purpose for your life and mine is that we would look like Jesus, bringing glory to His name.

In order to accomplish this, God must carve away anything and everything in our lives that does not look like Him.  When we come to faith in God through His Son, Jesus, we must read His Word, believe His Word, and obey His Word.  This is the only way that we can experience victory over the devil and his evil schemes to deceive us and rob us of the true blessing of knowing God in a real and personal way.

We mustn't engage in the self-gratifying culture around us, allowing it to entice us away from God's truth which is all that is best for us.  Many pastors and teachers of the Western World in this generation teach what is contrary to Scripture, that you can live a duplicitous life and still be pleasing to God.  This is not what Scripture teaches us.

1 John 2:15-17 tells us, "Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”

God's Word reminds us that as Christians we are to stand and stand firm, not in a prideful way, but in a confident and truthful way.  We are to stand on God's promises (Acts 26:6), stand firm in His covenant (Psalm 89:28), stand against the devil with God's full armor (Ephesians 6:10-20), and stand in faith (Romans 11:20).

James 1:27 reminds us, "Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world."

And Colossians 2:8 admonishes us, "See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ."

As we practice these truths—reading, believing, and obeying God's Word—our lives will glorify God and we will look like Jesus.

Hallelujah!

Goodnight, Runners.
