Remember Where You Are
“For this world is not our home; we are looking forward to our everlasting home in heaven.” Hebrews 13:14
1 Peter 2:11 says, “Dear brothers, you are only visitors here. Since your real home is in heaven, I beg you to keep away from the evil pleasures of this world; they are not for you, for they fight against your very souls.”
As a young child, my brother, sister and I were often lovingly chided by our mother to, “Remember where you are! You’re not at home.” These reminders came at times when we were tempted to enjoy the freedoms and privileges of home when we were in public places. Our mother would go on to explain that those outside our family may not appreciate or understand the freedoms we enjoy at home and we must be on our best behavior. She would go on to encourage us, that we would be home soon and able to enjoy these freedoms once again.
In the Christian walk, it is the Holy Spirit now lovingly admonishing me to remember where I am. He reminds me that I am not at home, and that those outside the family may not understand or appreciate the freedoms I enjoy. He reminds me to live righteously.
So sit up straight, mind your manners, and remember where you are. You’re not at home.
But you’ll be there soon.
Goodnight, Runners.
