Your Worst Nightmare

"I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely." Psalm 63:8

What is your worst nightmare?

Is it the loss of a loved one?  Getting that late night call telling of tragedy?  Is it losing your job, your life savings?  Finding out you have a terminal illness?  Or, discovering someone you trust has committed some unspeakable crime?

Have you, perhaps, experienced that worse nightmare, whatever it may be?

As for me, I must say that I have experienced all of my worst nightmares, and in each and every one of them, God showed me that He is greater, stronger, and well able to get me through each and every nightmare, each and every worst-case scenario, and each and every valley I may face—EVER.

David knew a little something about nightmares.  Listen to what he says in the Book of Psalms:

"He reached down from heaven and took me and drew me out of my great trials. He rescued me from deep waters." —Psalm 18:16

"He is the God who pays back those who harm me and subdues the nations before me." —Psalm 18:46

"The one thing I want from God, the thing I seek most of all, is the privilege of meditating in his Temple, living in his presence every day of my life, delighting in his incomparable perfections and glory. There I’ll be when troubles come. He will hide me. He will set me on a high rock out of reach of all my enemies. Then I will bring him sacrifices and sing his praises with much joy." —Psalm 27:4-6

"Even when walking through the dark valley of death I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me, guarding, guiding all the way." —Psalm 23:4

Can you relate to David at all?

What about Job?  He knew a little something about nightmares, too.  He lost all of his children, his wealth and his health.  Yet God allowed Job to see Him like never before as a result of these nightmares.  Notice what Job says to God when all is said and done in Job 42:5:

"I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes."

What a joy and a comfort it is to know that no matter what we may face in life, if we are following Jesus, there is nothing in all the world we need to fear.  We are secure in God's treasure pouch.

“Even when you are chased by those who seek to kill you, your life is safe in the care of the Lord your God, secure in his treasure pouch! But the lives of your enemies will disappear like stones shot from a sling!" —1 Samuel 25:29

The real worst nightmare would be separation from Jesus.  Do you know Him?

Goodnight, Runners.
