Bye-Bye Squirrel Girl
"I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us." Philippians 3:12-14
Are you squirrelly?
Are you squirrelly?
What I mean is, are you focused in your pursuit of Jesus? Or, like the family dog, are you easily distracted by the squirrels of life?
Squirrels are everywhere. On a given day, I pass three to four of them just leaving my neighborhood. It may be that you're reading this blog post on one of the biggest squirrels of our time . . . the cell phone. While they can be extremely beneficial in making us more efficient, they can also be huge time-wasters, distracting us constantly if we are not disciplined.
But, what does it really say about my walk with Jesus if I allow myself to be distracted so easily? God's Word tells us in 1 Corinthians 15:58, "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord."
That's who I want to be. That's what I want to be: steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord! That's who God wants us to be, too. Philippians 1:6 encourages us in the joyful promise that God keeps working in us, helping us to say adios to the squirrel chasing, "And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ."
Squirrels may be cute, but God is glorious and beautiful. There is no comparison.
So, bye-bye, squirrel girl! Hello to the refinement of Jesus, my one true joy!
Goodnight, Runners.
