Into My Heart
"Give me understanding and I will obey your instructions; I will put them into practice with all my heart." Psalm 119:34
Ecclesiastes 7:4 tells us, "A wise person thinks a lot about death, while a fool thinks only about having a good time."
Do you give much thought to where you will be when you die?
I've discovered something wonderful happens when we consider our mortality often, in light of eternity--we find life--real life, abundant life. It is an overwhelmingly beautiful thing to contemplate one's death because it puts all things into perspective. Suddenly, the things that are really important become vastly more important. And, the things that have no eternal value--those things which often most distract us and stress us--simply fade away.
Remarkable.
There is no greater stress reliever or muscle relaxer than contemplating our eternity with Jesus Christ and letting Him guide us in feeding His sheep, His lambs--those who are all around us (John 21:17).
When I was a little girl, we sang a sweet song in Sunday School at decision time. It was a song by Harry D. Clarke entitled, Into My Heart. The lyrics were short and sweet:
Into my heart
Into my heart
Come into my heart, Lord Jesus
Come in today
Come in to stay
Come into my heart, Lord Jesus
Maybe you've never invited Jesus to come into your heart and be in charge of your life. Or, maybe you invited Him in some time ago, but like the seeds that fell among the thorns in the Parable of the Farmer Scattering Seed (Matthew 13), you've allowed the things of this world to choke out Jesus and a fruit-filled, purposeful life. So, pondering death and eternity are things you push aside and avoid as much as possible.
It's not too late, and it's not how we start that matters. It's how we finish (Matthew 20:1-16).
As long as you have breath, God can use you, giving you purpose and abundant life in Him. And, I believe God's rich purpose for you and for me will continue on even after we've left this earth until the day that Jesus returns (Philippians 1:6).
Won't you welcome Him into each and every area of your life, each and every day, to have complete control? It will be the best decision you will ever make in your life.
Goodnight, Runners.
