Close Enough for Government Work

"Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men." Proverbs 22:29

The phrase, "close enough for government work" has long depicted the low standard attributed to those who work in government positions.  It is sad but true sometimes, and sometimes it is not.  Each person is responsible for how they conduct themselves in their work, the work product, itself, and the level of excellence to which they ascribe.

Many who claim the name, Christian, today seem to follow the "close enough for government work" mantra in the way they follow Jesus.  They do just enough to get by and excuse the rest with a broad stroke of the grace brush.

But, that's not what God requires of us.  He wants more.

The Holy Bible tells us Deuteronomy 10:12, "And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the Lord your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul."

Micah 6:8 says, "No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God."

And, Colossians 3:23 reminds us, "Whatever work you do, do it with all your heart. Do it for the Lord and not for men."

Sometimes it is good to be reminded that God wants our best--in everything.  It not only brings glory and honor to God to do our best in all things, but it is also what serves us best, too, both now and eternally.  It makes us vessels that He can use for any purpose.

I want to be available for Him to use for anything.

Don't you?

Goodnight, Runners.
