The Socialization of Truth

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." John 14:6

Have you noticed the attempts by our culture to change truth?

I recently had a conversation with someone I work with who believes that truth is relative.  This person defined truth as what is generally accepted in our society.  The person went on to say they believe that truth evolves over time.

But, that's not what the Holy Bible says.

James 1:17 tells us, "Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens.  He never changes or casts a shifting shadow."

God doesn't shift to the right or to the left, and neither does His truth.

Our culture has tried to change the most basic definitions of right and wrong--those laws God has written upon our hearts and used to prick our consciences.

I'm talking about things like the definition of marriage.  These truths haven't changed just because a group of people wanted them to in order to justify their own sin.  The definition of marriage is still the God-ordained union of one man and one woman, intended to last for a lifetime.

Do you ever try to justify your sin?

It's human nature apart from God to justify sin.  But, once we've given our hearts to Jesus, a change takes place.  No longer are we dominated by sin, justifying it and allowing it to control our lives.  We are grieved by our own sin because we know it grieves our Heavenly Father.  Now, we are controlled by the Holy Spirit who gives life!  We confess and repent of our sins, and seek ways to abide in Christ Jesus every moment of every day.

We must never forget that while our culture may change with the accepted practices of the day, God's truth never does.  Pastors and teachers should never apologize for the things they find in Scripture or try to soften them, even lessen them.  God's truth, the Holy Bible, is life to the body and the soul.  It  should never be minimized, and we should never make excuses for it.

May we share this truth each day with those whom God places in our path.

"Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will learn the truth." 2 Timothy 2:25

Goodnight, Runners.
