There's a Fork in My Road, But I Asked for a Spoon (Part Deux)
“The whole countryside is open to you. Take your choice of any section of the land you want, and we will separate. If you want the land to the left, then I’ll take the land on the right. If you prefer the land on the right, then I’ll go to the left.” Genesis 13:9
I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth. Although, as soon as I realized all the things a silver spoon could provide, I worked hard at scooping up all life had to offer, eager to have my fill of the finer things in life. What I failed to realize at the time was that God’s definition of “the finer things” is different than the world’s definition. Ecclesiastes 10:2 tells us, “A wise person chooses the right road; a fool takes the wrong one.”
But, how do we know which fork in the road to take? How can we avoid the pitfalls of making the wrong choice?
Romans 6:16 tells us, “Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living.”
Isaiah 48:17 says, “This is what the Lord says—your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is good for you and leads you along the paths you should follow.”
Psalm 25:12 tells us, “Who are those who fear the LORD? He will show them the path they should choose.”
May we follow the right fork—the one that leads us closer to Jesus—today and every day.
