Stop the Profanity

"Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them."  Ephesians 4:29

A few weeks ago in the Sunday School class I attended, the elderly gentleman teaching the lesson decided to tell what he thought was a funny story, but the punch line contained some profanity.  Most of the class laughed, and few people noticed the visitors who quietly snuck out the back door, never to return.

After the class was over, I went to discuss the situation with the teacher, explaining that his language was offensive, it was sinful, and it caused some guests to leave.  To my surprise, this teacher was not repentant or remorseful in any way, and saw absolutely nothing wrong with what he had done.

My friend, this is the problem with the church today.  People have left the Christian standard--the Holy Bible--behind for a new morality, a made-up morality, an if-it-feels-good-do-it morality.  

Rampant profanity is just the tip of the iceberg.  We have clergy who are addicted to pornography and see absolutely nothing wrong with it.  Any man who does this is sinning and not being faithful to God or his wife, if he is married, as the Holy Bible commands (see Matthew 5:28, 2 Timothy 2:22, Ephesians 5:3, Colossians 3:5, 1 Thessalonians 4:3).  And, there are many other sins rampant in the church that we fail to deal with, as 1 Corinthians 5 commands us to.

Even people who don't know Christ know better than to do these things.

But, there is good news!  God forgives.  Luke 24:47 tells us, "It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’"

So, stop it!  Stop the profanity!

So watch yourselves! “If another believer sins, rebuke that person; then if there is repentance, forgive."  Luke 17:3
