Underdog
“God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important.” 1 Corinthians 1:28
I love the underdog.
Don't you?
- The team that never won a game all season coming from behind to beat the championship team
- The kid that's last picked on the kickball team scoring the winning run
- The student that all the other kids bully and make fun of becoming the Valedictorian
- The nice guy who doesn't finish last, but becomes the most successful in his business
- The woman with a physical disability that overcomes to win the marathon
- The three-legged dog that finds the man buried in the avalanche
We could go on and on with examples of underdogs that prick our hearts, our empathy, stir that desire to witness the miraculous, the unexpected, to see justice.
God favors the underdog, too. Just read the verse above. His way of doing things, seeing things shows just how upside down we are here on earth.
Isaiah 55:8 tells us, “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine."
Sometimes it feels like bad wins out just a little too often. But, I've seen God make it right. I've seen Him take the evil and the bad things in life and weave them into something good, in unexpected ways, miraculous ways. He doesn't waste anything.
As a follower of Christ, do you ever feel like the underdog? In God’s story, the earthly underdog, the one who stays faithful to Christ until the end, is the one who wins.
That's definitely something to be joyful about.

Goodnight, Runners.
