The Law of Kindness
"He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding." Ephesians 1:8
Have you ever experienced some great kindness?
When my mother passed away, I was overwhelmed by the kindness of others. Cards, hugs, and words of love and sympathy flooded my life at every turn. The tender hearts of many loving people were a gentle reminder of the kindness God showers upon us all constantly.
Psalm 145:17 tells us, “The Lord is righteous in everything he does; he is filled with kindness."
And we are to have this same kindness toward others.
Proverbs 11:17 says, “Your kindness will reward you, but your cruelty will destroy you."
Zechariah 7:9 tells us, “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Judge fairly, and show mercy and kindness to one another."
God’s continued kindness does come with a requirement; namely, that we continue to trust and obey Him. As Romans 11:22 reminds us, “Notice how God is both kind and severe. He is severe toward those who disobeyed, but kind to you if you continue to trust in his kindness. But if you stop trusting, you also will be cut off."
May we freely bestow kindness on others as Christ has poured kindness upon us. And, may we never test His kindness, trusting and walking always in obedience to Him.
