The Perfect Gift
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.” James 1:17-18
I love giving presents.
Don't you?
Sometimes I have a hard time figuring out just what to get someone. This is partially due to having made some pretty big gift-giving blunders in my life. There was the time I gave my nephew a blanket when he was 8 years old. His face said it all. A ball, game, or toy of some sort would have been much better.
Then, there was the time I bought everyone in the family a decorated ceramic cow for Christmas back when they were all the rage. Each one had a unique design. I had so much fun picking them out for everyone! But, their overly polite smiles (and some laughter) were a clear indication that they did not share the same passion. I was crushed.
I like to think my gift-giving has improved over time, though I don't always give just the right thing.
But, God does.
He never gives the wrong gift. His gifts are always timely and perfect . . . just what we need at just the right time.
And, the best gift of all, the perfect gift? You know the answer. Jesus.
He's the gift that keeps on giving! Each and every day He overwhelms us with good things, doesn't He? If we will but receive Him, unwrap Him, make Him our very own, then we will know the blessing of the very best gift ever, every day!
He makes me want to give, and to serve, and to love. And, when we do that, He blesses us with a desire to do even more.
Proverbs 10:12 says, "The blessing of the Lord makes a person rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.”
May we give the gift of Jesus and His love every day, every chance we get.
