Tear Down the Walls
"It was by faith that the people of Israel marched around Jericho for seven days, and the walls came crashing down." Hebrews 11:30
I remember well the words spoken by President Ronald Reagan in his address from the Brandenburg Gate on June 12, 1987, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” The challenge served as a call to change. It was a call to freedom.
Just as the collapse of the Berlin Wall brought freedom and expansion to Eastern Europeans, the destruction of the walls of Jericho brought freedom and expansion to the Jews.
But there are still walls in our world that need removing, and they are within the Christian faith. We have built denominations for reasons big and small that have served to alienate, separate, divide, and imprison us.
Ephesians 4:5–6 tells us, “There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all, in all, and living through all.”
We must learn to love our fellow Christian believers as God intended.
First Peter 3:8 says, “Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude.”
May we tear down the walls, and may we be united with all who fear God, those who know His laws (Psalm 119:79).
