Softly and Tenderly

“Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the Lord told him. And as Elijah stood there, the Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper..” I Kings 19:11-12

The world screams constantly to get our attention. Every direction we turn, there is someone or something demanding our attention. There are crises at every corner, business activities calling us to action, and constant distractions from the many hoarders of our time.

All the while, Jesus is calling to us, softly and tenderly He calls to us.

Are we listening?

In this passage of Scripture, the Lord speaks to Elijah in a gentle whisper.

It is easier to hear the screaming of the immediate need, the siren, the child’s cry, the television, the dryer buzzer, the microwave alarm, the bill needing payment.

We must stop and focus. We must listen for God’s voice.

We must be still.

Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”

Stop and focus on Him.

Focus on Christ.

Focus on the One who saved your soul.

Focus on the One who loves you more than anyone else in all the world.

Focus on Jesus.

And, may you hear Him speaking to you today.
