A Clean Slate
"Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." Psalm 51:10
As a child in school, I loved to clean the chalkboard at the end of the school day. My fifth grade teacher would choose 2 students each day to erase the blackboards and then dust the erasers outside. We took great pleasure in rubbing off every speck from the boards, and then banging the erasers together outside with all of our might, until there wasn't an ounce of chalk dust remaining.
There was something about a clean slate, ready for a new day, starting over.
There is something about a clean slate in life, too.
As 2012 approaches, I reflect on 2011. There are things I'd like to do differently, mistakes made, opportunities missed, a heart that needs cleaning out.
This year, instead of all the New Year's Resolutions, I will pray as David did. I will ask God to create a clean heart in me, and to renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do you need a clean slate? Pray with me, as David did.
I know that God will answer.
May 2012 be the best year you've ever had in your life.
