A Prayer for Stability

In times of emotional distress, stability is in high demand and short supply. We are often unable to see things clearly—as God sees them. James 1:8 says, “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”

God doesn’t want us to be unstable. He doesn’t want us to be double-minded in our thinking. He wants us to simply and completely trust Him. He wants us to get to the point in our relationship with Him that even though the entire world seems to crumble around our feet, we can rest in complete peace, knowing that He is in control of the instability around us.

We can’t possibly know or understand all that God is doing for good in and through our circumstances. It all just seems so imperfect and crazy to us sometimes.

I Corinthians 13:12 says, “Now we see things imperfectly as in a cloudy mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.”

God is the all-powerful stabilizer throughout life's circumstances and every crisis we face. We can pray and ask Him to grant us the ability to completely trust in Him as the stability in our lives. James 1:17 tells us, “Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.”

He never changes.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for not changing. We thank You for giving us the stability of being able to know You and rest in You as our source of strength, peace, and stability.

We ask, Father, that You would grant us the ability to trust completely in who You are. Regardless of the cost, fill us completely and totally with You. May we hold nothing in reserve.

Help us to find peace and serenity in the chaos, change and turmoil around us. Lord, if we have contributed to or caused this turmoil in any way, we ask You to forgive us. Help us to make it right.

We forgive those who have hurt us, and ask that they be able to forgive us for any and all perceived wrongs.

Dear Father, we thank You and praise You for loving us more than we can comprehend.

We pray all these things in Your precious holy name.

AMEN.
