The Power of Compassion
"When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. “Don’t cry!” he said." Luke 7:13
Compassion is a very powerful force. Have you ever experienced it? Perhaps you were in need of a job and someone gave you a chance when you weren't qualified for the position. Or, maybe someone gave you a strong hug at a time when you felt all hope was gone. Whatever the circumstance, to be on the receiving end of compassion is a pretty amazing thing.
The story of Jesus showing compassion to a woman who lost her only son in Luke 7:11-15 is pretty amazing, too. In this passage of Scripture, we find Jesus watching the funeral procession for this young man. When He saw the mother, Jesus was so moved with compassion for her that the Scripture tells us, "Then he walked over to the coffin and touched it, and the bearers stopped. 'Young man,' he said, 'I tell you, get up.' 15 Then the dead boy sat up and began to talk! And Jesus gave him back to his mother."
You may not bring someone back from the grave, but the compassion you share through a hug, a kind word, or some other compassionate act may very well save someone's life--and you may never even realize it.
My prayer for you today is that you would look past your own circumstance to show compassion to someone in need today.
"You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate." Luke 6:36
May showing compassion make this the best day you've ever had in your life.
