A Prayer for Solace

Webster’s Dictionary defines solace as “comfort in disappointment or misery.” From birth, our spirits long for comfort. The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 1:3, “God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.” The next verse goes on to tell us, “He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.”

We have all experienced or will experience a need for solace, for comfort in our lives. In God’s divine providence, He has provided a Comforter, the Holy Spirit, who will never leave us or forsake us as long as we belong to Him.

The Bible confirms this in John 14:16, which says, “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;”

What a wonderful demonstration of the Savior’s love and care for us at all times and in all circumstances.“

Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17).”

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You this day for Your promise of perpetual comfort. You are the source of all solace in our lives. We ask that You comfort us in our distress. We thank You that You will never leave us or forsake us, Father. How wonderful You are! We praise You for Your goodness.

Lord, may we climb into Your heavenly embrace and feel Your loving comfort surround us at this time and always.

Thank You for drawing us ever near to You. You are our hiding place, Father.

Forgive us for failing You, and help us to remember that Your Word is a continual feast of solace for our souls.

Grant us solace, we pray.

We ask all these things in Your precious, holy name.

AMEN.
