A Prayer for Healing
In 2 Kings 20:1-7, the Bible tells us the story of King Hezekiah.
King Hezekiah had become deathly ill, and the prophet Isaiah came to visit him. Isaiah had received a message from the Lord, and was the bearer of bad news. The news was that King Hezekiah needed to put his affairs in order because he was not going to recover from his illness. He was going to die.
The Bible says in 2 Kings 20:2-3, “When Hezekiah heard this, he turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD, ‘Remember, O LORD, how I have always been faithful to you and have served you single-mindedly, always doing what pleases you.’ Then he broke down and wept bitterly.”
The story goes on to say that before the prophet Isaiah left the courtyard, the Lord spoke to him again. The Lord told Isaiah to go back and tell Hezekiah that He had heard his prayer and that He saw Hezekiah’s tears. God told Isaiah to let King Hezekiah know that in three days he would be healed and would get out of bed.
On top of that, God promised to add fifteen years to King Hezekiah’s life AND rescue him from the Assyrians!
That’s a pretty powerful demonstration of God’s love. God has that love for you, too.
In the New Testament, everyone—every single person—who asked and believed for Jesus’ healing power received it. Jesus healed them all. We may not always understand what true healing means for our particular circumstance, but we can know that God has our best interest in His divine plan.
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28 (NKJV)
Dear Father in Heaven,
We praise your most holy name. You know the depth of the affliction we bring before you. We thank you for sending your son, Jesus, to heal all who asked and believed in the New Testament. Our prayer today is a request for healing, Father. We ask for your healing today for __________________________. We know that it is your will to heal __________________________. Release ____________________ from the grip of this illness and restore health to his/her body.
We ask that you help us, Dear Father, to understand the type and extent of the healing you desire to provide for _________________________. If you desire to provide ultimate healing, Lord, help us to be accepting of Your will. If it be Your will, give us a miraculous sign to reveal to us your plan and purpose in this situation.
Help us to depend upon You in times when we doubt, for you are the author and finisher of our faith. We thank you and praise you for the good you are bringing and will produce out of this difficult time.
In Jesus’ name we pray.
AMEN.
