A Prayer of Repentance
“If a person does not repent, God will sharpen his sword; he will bend and string his bow.” (Psalm 7:12)
Repentance of sin is at the very foundation of our relationship with Christ. Without repentance, we are separated from God. Repentance is an acknowledgement of sin and a choice to turn away from sin—to choose, with God’s strength, not to practice sin any longer. Repentance does not mean that we will be perfect, but rather that we are not accepting of our own sinful behavior. We are acknowledging that our sin is wrong.
When the people of Nineveh repented of their sins at the preaching of Jonah, God restored them to a position of favor and healed their land. He will heal and restore you, too.
The Bible tells us that once we have repented of our sin, we must prove our repentance through our actions. Matthew 3:8 says, “Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God.”
When we have genuinely repented, it is evident to all. There is a change in us. There is a change in our want to. We no longer want to sin.
In Luke 5:32, Jesus says, “I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent.”
Dear Heavenly Father,
I am a sinner. I repent of my sin. Forgive me and change me, Father. I don’t want to sin anymore. Help me to be like You.
Thank You for loving me. I praise You for working in my life and helping me to change.
I thank You for wiping my sins away. Thank You for the promise of not rejecting a broken and repentant heart (Psalm 51:17).
May Your kingdom come and Your will be done in the sight of many witnesses.
In Your precious, holy name I pray.
