A Prayer for Wisdom
Solomon is well-known as one of the wisest men to have ever lived. People from all nations came to hear the Wisdom of Solomon. But, why did Solomon receive this great wisdom?
In 2 Chronicles 1:10, Solomon prayed, “Give me the wisdom and knowledge to lead them properly, for who could possibly govern this great people of yours?”
God said to Solomon, “Because your greatest desire is to help your people, and you did not ask for wealth, riches, fame, or even the death of your enemies or a long life, but rather you asked for wisdom and knowledge to properly govern my people—I will certainly give you the wisdom and knowledge you requested. But I will also give you wealth, riches, and fame such as no other king has had before you or will ever have in the future!”
Solomon had a heart that longed to please God. God knows our hearts. He knows whether or not we desire to please Him. He longs to have a close, personal relationship with us.
In the midst of confusion, there is nothing we need more than wisdom and no one we need more than God. Take the time to draw close to Him. Take the time to stay close to Him.
Proverbs 9:10 says, “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.”
If we need and want wisdom, all we have to do is ask. James 1:5 says, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.”
Dear Father in Heaven,
I need your wisdom, desperately. I have lived without it far too long. Fill me with Your truths, Father, in order that I may know and understand You more.
Fill me with a reverence and fear of You and Your power that I may obtain a heart of wisdom that is pleasing to You.
Teach me Your ways, Father. Remove any and all confusion from my life. Make me like You—no matter what the cost.
Help me to keep my mind and heart set on eternal things. Pour out Your wisdom that I may know how to act in this time of crisis. Work out Your purposes in my life in accordance with Your wisdom and Your divine plan.
I ask all these things in Your precious, holy name.
AMEN.
