A Humpty Dumpty Prayer
Do you remember this well-known nursery rhyme?
HUMPTY DUMPTY[1]
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king’s horses, and all the king’s men,
Couldn’t put Humpty together again.
Perhaps all the king’s horses and all the king’s men couldn’t put Humpty together again, but God can. When we give Him all the broken pieces of our life, He can put us back together—better than we were before.
Have you fallen so hard you feel as though there is no way you can possibly get back up? Psalm 145:14 says, “The Lord helps the fallen and lifts those bent beneath their loads.”
If I were re-writing Humpty Dumpty to show what God can do for you, it would go something like this:
HUMPTY DUMPTY
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All of God’s grace, His love and compassion,
Put Humpty together in glorious fashion.
Psalm 147:3 says, “He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.” Give God all the broken pieces of your life today, and He will put you back together in glorious fashion, too.
Dear Heavenly Father,
I have fallen. I need Your help to get back up again. I can’t make it on my own, Lord. I need You every day, every hour, every second of my life. Thank You for loving me. Forgive me for my disobedience, Father.
Guard me against the attacks of the enemy. Purge me of my sin, and restore me to a right standing and favor with You, Heavenly Father. I long to return to You and be kept in Your safe dwelling place.
Pick me back up, Father. Thank You for hearing me when I call on You. Rescue me, Father. Lift me up and place me back on solid ground.
You are all I need in this world, Father. I praise You because You will never leave me or forsake me.
Please put me back together again—better than I was before.
In Jesus precious name I pray.
AMEN.
