An Alien Prayer
Do you ever feel as though others view you to be an alien from an unknown planet? Do you wish that someone could look into your soul and understand who you are, what you think, and the planet that you’ve come from? If you’re answer is, “yes,” to any of these questions, you’re not alone. Countless other people have felt just as you do—including Jesus.
However, the key to filling this need or desire in your life is not found in selfishly longing to be understood. The key is found in pursuing a deeper understanding of the One who created us—the one true and living God.
Jeremiah 4:22 says, “My people are foolish and do not know me,” says the Lord. “They are stupid children who have no understanding. They are clever enough at doing wrong, but they have no idea how to do right!”
Ouch! But, so true of us so very often, isn’t it? We are so busy being absorbed in our own sinful idiosyncrasies, longing for someone to find us “special” that we lose sight of the One who truly made us special—the only One who truly understands us better than anyone on earth ever will.
Dear Heavenly Father,
I feel so very alone and long to be understood, but I know that Your grace and Your goodness are sufficient to meet that longing in my life.
Father, I want to understand You. Help me understand the meaning of your commandments, and I will meditate on your wonderful deeds (Psalm 119:27).
Thank You for understanding me, Lord. Thank You for creating me in Your image (Genesis 1:27). Forgive me for my selfishness, Father. Draw me ever near You, and keep me from any and all evil temptations.
May my life reflect an understanding of Your ways, that You may fulfill my desire to be understood.
In Your precious, holy name I pray.
AMEN.
