We Should Sweat the Small Stuff
"If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won't be faithful with greater responsibilities." Luke 16:10
There is a popular book out now, entitled, Don't Sweat the Small Stuff. My friend, the premise of this book is contrary to what God's Word teaches us. Just as the devil takes a strand of truth and weaves a convincing web of lies around it, so he has done with this book.
Certainly, the Bible does teach us that we should not worry (Ecclesiastes 11:10, Matthew 6:25), and that we should have faith (Hebrews 11:6). But, one only needs to take a brief glance in any direction to see how the idea of "not sweating the small stuff" has permeated our culture in the form of a laissez faire mentality of anything and everything goes.
If Rip Van Winkle had fallen asleep 30 years ago and woken up today, he would wonder what planet he had gone to--and, that's not because of the iphones and netbooks, it's because of the arrogance, immorality, and narcissism.
Here's an analogy you've probably heard before: If you were to take a live frog and place it in a pot of boiling water, the frog would quickly and frantically hop out of the pot with every ounce of its power. But, if you were to take that same frog, and place it in a pot of cold water, then slowly turn up the heat, the frog would be boiled alive.
My friend, you and I are that frog.
May we wake up and jump out of the pot today, and may you have the best week you've ever had in your life.
