Growing Old Joyfully
"The glory of the young is their strength; the gray hair of experience is the splendor of the old." Proverbs 20:29 NLT
My father recently celebrated his 76th birthday on the same day our daughter, Meredith, celebrated her 10th. As I watched the two opening their gifts, I was struck by the truth of this verse. Meredith ripped open each present with vim, vigor, and vitality, while my father gingerly opened each package with shaking hands, yet his demeanor gleamed with wisdom. His body, though frail, was surrounded by strength of spirit that only years of walking with God can bring.
Too often we complain about growing old and see it as something negative in our culture. Yet, Proverbs 16:31 says, "Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained by living a godly life."
May you glory in the simple blessing of reaching old age, and may you finish the race God has given you to run with passion and joy.
